Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture Donates Furniture to Braintree Youth Center

Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture recently helped furnish the new Braintree Community Youth Center.  The center, which opened to provide a safe, supervised space for teens to hang out, was in desperate need of comfortable sofas and other items for their new program and asked Bernie & Phyl’s for donations twice in a one month period.  Bernie & Phyl’s came through with a donation of numerous sofas and a table to meet both requests.

“We are happy to have helped make the new Braintree Community Youth Center an inviting, comfortable, and safe place for the kids who use it,” said Bernie Rubin, co-founder and chairman of Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture.  “We support the important work these youth centers do and are happy that we can do our part to make a difference.”

The center was thrilled with the donations and its director Jim Tennant wrote to say, “We received the furniture that you arranged to send for the Braintree Community Youth Center. Wow!  I spent last night like a little kid at Christmas setting them up, re-arranging, and putting together the plan of how they’ll be utilized.”

Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture, which is owned by the Rubin family, is the largest privately held furniture retailer in Massachusetts.  In 2007, Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture received the prestigious Better Business Bureau Local Torch Award for Excellence, which is given to companies that embody the highest ethical standards.  It was the second time that Bernie & Phyl’s had received the Torch Award.  In 2002, the company was named “Retailer of the Year” by the National Home Furnishings Association, which is the highest honor in the retail home furnishings industry.  Based in Norton, MA, Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture has five stores in New England: Braintree, MA; Nashua, NH; Raynham, MA; Saugus, MA; and Westboro, MA.

Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture Donates Furniture to Westborough YMCA Teen Center

Westborough, MA, January 16, 2008 – Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture recently donated two sofas and a bookcase to the Boroughs Family Branch YMCA Youth & Teen Center in Westborough.  The teen center was being renovated and lacked sufficient seating for the hundreds of teens who use it during afternoons and evenings, as well as a place to store its growing library of donated books.

The donation request was initiated by Chris Dragoon, a Westborough High School senior and intern at the YMCA who was involved in the renovation.  Dragoon was working at the YMCA as part of the high school’s Quest Program, which gives seniors the chance to use the last month of their high school experience to give back to the community through service projects.

“We are happy to have helped make the Boroughs Family Branch Youth & Teen Center an inviting, comfortable, and safe place for the kids who use it,” said Bernie Rubin, co-founder and chairman of Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture.  “We support the important work these youth centers do and are happy that we can do our part to make a difference.”
